David Allen Barnell, age 76, of Battle Creek went to be with his Lord & Savior on Saturday morning, September 3, 2022. He was born in Sturgis, Michigan on August 10, 1946, the son of Paul H. and Maxine J. (Klopfenstein) Barnell. He graduated from Constantine High School with the Class of 1964. A Vietnam Era veteran, David faithfully served his country as a member of the United States Army, and then retired from the Clark Equipment Company in 1986.
David married the "Love of His Life", Lorna J. Nelson on August 12, 1966; she survives. He is also survived by his children, Melanie Jones of Illinois, Vanessa Patterson of Shelby, Michael (Connie) Barnell of Battle Creek and Monica Barnell of Battle Creek; eleven grandchildren; three great-grandchildren; and his brothers & sisters, Sharon Parman, Sylvia (Pat) Gillum, Steve (Amy) Barnell, and LaVonne (Eldon) VanSyckle. David was preceded in death by his parents.
David was a Christian all of his life. He enjoyed genealogy, fishing, woodworking, and coin collecting.
David resided at the Laurels of Bedford for two months, with additional care from Hospice.
The family will receive friends 10:30 a.m. to 11:30 a.m. Tuesday, September 27th at the 20th Street Church of Christ, 122 North 20th Street, Battle Creek where a memorial service to celebrate David's life will begin at 11:30 a.m., with Pastor Josh Hydrick, officiating.
