David R. Hewkin, age 71, of Richland went Home to his Heavenly Father on Saturday evening, March 5, 2016. He was born in Effingham, Illinois on October 26, 1944, the loving son of Harold F. and Alena Grace (Goen) Hewkin and graduated from Effingham High School with the Class of 1962. David faithfully served his country during the Vietnam Era as a member of the United States Air Force from 1962 to 1968 and retired from the Otis Elevator Company in 2004 after more than 38 years of service.
David married the "Love of His Life", Judyann Grace at the First Presbyterian Church of Battle Creek on June 18, 1966; she survives. He is also survived by his children, Christina A. "Tina" (Jerry) Lorio of Parchment and David R. (Alice) Hewkin of Battle Creek; six grandchildren, Joshua, Andrew & Timothy Lorio, Zachary Campbell, and Austin & Faith Hewkin; a great-grandchild, Landyn Lorio; a sister, Brenda (Bob) Whitaker, and several nieces & nephews and great-nieces & nephews. David was sadly preceded in death by his parents and brothers, Wallace & Donald Hewkin.
A very loving, giving and Godly man, David always put others first. He loved working with children, and umpired and refereed many little league sporting events in the Gull Lake and Parchment areas. David was a charter and devoted member of the Gull Lake Area Community Church (now Living Hope Community Church) where he served in many different roles over the years. His true passions in life were God and Family, and he loved spending time with his family, family gatherings, sporting events and being very involved in the lives of his grandchildren.
The family will receive friends 12:30 to 1:30 p.m., Thursday, March10, 2016 at the Living Hope Community Church 9292 East CD Ave., Richland where funeral services to celebrate David's life will be held at 1:30 p.m. Interment will follow at Prairie Home Cemetery, Richland. In lieu of flowers, please consider making donations to the National Parkinson Foundation, Alzheimer's Association or to the church.
