David Lawrence "Dave" Mahoney

September 29, 1941 — June 8, 2019

David Lawrence Mahoney, 77, of Battle Creek died peacefully on Saturday, June 8, 2019, at Evergreen Manor, after an 18 year battle with Alzheimer's disease.

Dave was born September 29, 1941 in Jackson, Michigan the son of John Herman and Lorna Evelyn (Friday) Mahoney. He grew up in Jackson where Dave was a 1959 graduate of Jackson High School. Dave graduated from Michigan State University and was a Certified Public Accountant. He was a partner with Plante Moran when he retired at the age of 59

David Lawrence Mahoney married Judith Mary Coddington August 29, 1964 in Jackson, Michigan at St. Paul Episcopal Church. Surviving are Judi, his dedicated and loving wife of 54+ years; three sons, William "Bill" Mahoney of Battle Creek, Paul (Sonya) Mahoney of Kalamazoo and James "Jim" (Stacey) Mahoney of Okemos; grandchildren, Mitchell (Gabriel) Mahoney, Brandon (Leda Smedberg) Mahoney, Nicholas Enos, Trevor Francis, Brett Francis, Hannah Mahoney, Katelyn Mahoney, Carson Mahoney, Cameron "Cami" Mahoney; his sister, Martha (William) Mendez of Mason, OH; and numerous nieces, nephews, cousins and their families. Dave was preceded in death by his parents and a sister, Margaret Brondyke.

Dave was a member of The Church of The Resurrection, where he previously served as a Lay Reader and Vestry member. He was a past president and member of Battle Creek Rotary Club. Dave also served as a past president of Binder Park Zoo and was a lifetime member. Dave was a two year captain of the Jackson High School Tennis Team. He continued his love of tennis and golf at Battle Creek Country Club, where he was a member for 40 years. Dave also served on the Community Hospital Board and was active in the Battle Creek Area Chamber of Commerce. He and Judi enjoyed Hot Air Balloons and went to New Mexico several times for balloon events. They even took a hot air balloon ride on their 30th wedding anniversary. Dave and Judi had a large group of couples who enjoyed traveling to see plays together, "playing Bridge" and attending the Battle Creek Brass Band Concerts and other music venues together, including David's favorite, country western music. Dave and Judi also enjoyed whale watching on their two trips to Hawaii. Dave will be remembered as A Loving Husband, Father, Family Member & Friend.

Dave's family will receive friends 1:00 – 2:00 p.m. Wednesday, June 12, 2019 at The Church of The Resurrection, 2589 Capital Avenue S.W., Battle Creek (behind McDonald's on Capital SW near I-94). A service to celebrate Dave's life will be officiated by The Reverend Leonard Brinkmoller at the church 2:00 p.m. Wednesday, June 12, 2019.
