David Eugene McGuffey, 78, of Battle Creek died peacefully at home on Saturday, November 23, 2019.
David was born Dec 20, 1940 in St. Elmo, Tennessee to Claude Eugene and Dixie Marie (Turner) McGuffey. As a child, he moved to Battle Creek, Michigan with his family, where he has lived for the majority of his life. David worked at General Motors and then had a long career as a roofer. He worked 20 years with Swartz Roofing, until he and his son, Dee, started their own roofing business called D & D Roofing.
He loved hunting with a bow and would spend the entire deer-hunting season dressed up looking and smelling like a true hunter. He taught his sons to hunt and enjoyed hunting with them. Everyone who knew David knew his favorite thing to do was ride his Harley. He took many road trips across the states with his spouse, family and friends. All who spent time with him in his later years enjoyed his company and stories. He had his special places to sit around his home while listening to music and drinking his favorite beverage, beer!
On May 1st, 1977, David was united in marriage to Christine Margo Clothier, she survives.
He is survived by his children, Dee (Shelia) McGuffey, Kimberly (Jack) Lafon of Florida, Tina (John) Brownlee, Phyllis (Dan) Esch, Dena (Joel) Tenney, Corey Potter, Dixie Henne, Mark (Sarah) McGuffey, 12 grandkids and 9 great grandkids and a sister, Venus Kay Seaman of Battle Creek. David was preceded in death by his parents and two brothers Donnie and Daniel.
A viewing will be held on Friday Nov 29th at 12-1:30 p.m. followed by a memorial service 1:30 p.m. Friday, officiated by Rev. Robert G. Muirhead at Farley Estes Dowdle Funeral Home & Cremation Care. He will be laid to rest at Floral Lawn Memorial Gardens next to his parents. Celebration of life will be at the PNA Club 15 Clair St, Battle Creek, starting at 3:00 p.m.
