David Michael Green, 76, of Bedford Twp, died on Tuesday, Oct 28, 2025 in Scottsdale, AZ, from injuries sustained in a motorcycle accident. He was born on Sept 11, 1949, the oldest child of Art and Mary (Vandenberg) Green. His father died when Mike was 8 and his mom remarried and Herbert McPeake Sr. became his second dad.
Throughout his life he was known to family and friends as Mike, Duffy, Dave, Greenie, Dad, Grandpa Green and Papa Snakes.
As a teenager, David worked at Post Gardens and graduated from Battle Creek Central in 1967. In October 1967, he and his best friend, Phil Hill, enlisted in the Marine Corps under the "Buddy System". In 1969, David was promoted to corporal while serving aboard the USS St Paul and was attached to the Flag Marine Detachment stationed off the coast of Vietnam. On March 1, 1970, he was promoted to Sergeant (E-5). He earned the following military honors: Good Conduct Medal, Meritorious Unit Citation Ribbon, National Defense Service Medal, Vietnam Service Medal and Vietnam Campaign Medal. After his original three-year enlistment he was transferred to the Marine Corps Reserves and was honorably discharged on Oct 2, 1973.
In the 1970s, he went to work for Kellogg's. He also served several years as the union president. He loved his role as a tough negotiator and fighting for the rights of his Union brothers and sisters.
He was married four times with all marriages ending in divorce. He married Renee Durocher in 1969, Robin Willavize in 1973, Kay Morgan in 1990 and Meghan Gray in 1997.
David loved riding his motorcycles and traveling the country. He especially loved going to the Sturgis Bike Rally in South Dakota. He had been in multiple accidents and was forced to retire from Kellogg's after injuries sustained in one. He was on vacation in Arizona at the time of the accident that resulted in his death.
David truly loved his children and grandchildren. They were his world. He had a very special bond with his grandson, Ryan, who lived with him and helped care for him.
David is survived by his daughter, Sunny (Andy) Musselman of White Pigeon and his son Rickey (Jenny) Green of Galesburg. He also leaves behind 5 grandchildren, Michael (Rachel) Balizet of Bronson, Meranda (Mike) Clark of Centreville, Arron (Amy) Balizet of Vicksburg, Ryan Balizet of Battle Creek, and Josh (Danielle) Bennett of Battle Creek; 10 great- grandchildren; and 7 siblings, Linda Adams, Cheryl Deay, Scott Green, Toni Ardis, Jack McPeake, Herb McPeake Jr. and Lynda Cochran. He was preceded in death by his parents, his son David M. Green II and siblings Bertha Brazie, Delcia Kelley and Dawn Blakney.
Funeral services with full military honors will be held 2:30 p.m., Monday, December 8, 2025 at Ft Custer National Cemetery. Please be in line at the cemetery by 2:20 p.m. The family will continue the Celebration of David’s Life immediately following at the American Legion Post 298 at 228 N 20th Street, Springfield, MI.
