David L. Michielsen, 75, of Battle Creek, died November 17, 2025 at home surrounded by his loving family. David was born October 9, 1950 in Marshall to Joseph and Mary (March) Michielsen. Over the years, David worked for Sackrider Farms, Midwest Metallurgical, Michielsen Trucking and LASCO Bathware.
David moved around a lot as a child and attended many different schools. He gave his life to the Lord Jesus Christ at 19 years old at Glad Tidings Church. David met the love of his life, the former Carol Hite, at Midway Roller Rink. The couple married on June 12, 1971. Music was David’s passion. He was a self-taught guitar and keyboard player and loved to sing gospel, country and golden oldies. He would often sing and preach at local nursing homes.
When he wasn’t playing music, David was an avid fisherman. He bought a bass boat and traveled out of state to fish at different lakes. His favorite lake was Dale Hollow Lake in Tennessee, where he would spend a lot of time fishing and houseboating. Above all else, David loved spending time with his family, especially his grandchildren, whom he took on fishing and camping vacations.
David is survived by his loving wife, Carol “Denise”, two children, Scott (Karen) Michielsen and Sheila (Benjamin) Ellerby; four grandchildren, Travis (Kirstin) Michielsen, Seth Michielsen, Jade Michielsen and Olivia Ellerby and one great-granddaughter, Isaleigha Michielsen. David was preceded in death by his parents, three brothers and three sisters.
Visitation will be Wednesday, November 19, 2025 from 4:00 p.m. to 7:00 p.m. at the Farley Estes Dowdle Funeral Home & Cremation Care, where funeral services to celebrate David’s life will be 11:00 a.m., Thursday, November 20, officiated by Rev.
