David E. Nawatny

David E. Nawatny, 71, of Battle Creek, died November 17, 2013 after a brief and sudden illness. David was born June 18, 1942 in Battle Creek to Louis and Dorothy (Monaweck) Nawatny. He graduated in 1961 from Harper Creek High School and went on to serve in the U.S. Air Force for four years. He went on to work 33 years at the Kellogg Company, retiring in 1999.

David was a member of the First United Methodist Church and its Men's Club. He loved nature, photography, model railroads and had a passion for Ham radio. In addition to being an operator, he belonged to the Kalamazoo Amateur Radio Club, RACES, SkyWarn and LosTeam. He loved his cat, Tabitha, but most of all, he loved spending time with his grandchildren.

David married the former Gail Howard, on July 1, 1967 in Battle Creek, who survives. Also surviving are his two daughters, Tracy (Jeff) Colwell and Kimberly (Eric) Desch; two grandsons, Chase Colwell and Bryce Colwell; and a brother, Gary (Cheryll) Nawatny. David was preceded in death by his parents.

Funeral services to celebrate David's life will be 3:00 p.m., Wednesday, November 20, 2013 at the Farley-Estes & Dowdle Funeral Home, officiated by the Rev. Billie R. Dalton. Visitation will be two hours prior to the service, starting at 1:00 p.m. Interment will be held at a later date at Fort Custer National Cemetery.
