David P. Rohr, 69, of Battle Creek died, at Lifespan Good Samaritan Hospice Residence, with his family at his side, on Thursday, November 21, 2013. Dave had fought cancer courageously for 25 years,
He was born in Kalamazoo, MI to George Andrew and Ruth Mae (Staley) Rohr on October 15, 1944. Dave grew up in Kalamazoo and was a 1962 graduate of St. Augustine Catholic High School. He honorably served with the U.S. Air Force four years; and in 1971, received a Bachelor's Degree in Teaching from Western Michigan University. Briefly Dave was an elementary teacher for the Shelby School District. Dave retired as a cataloger from the Battle Creek Federal Center, where he was employed as a civilian employee for the U.S. Air Force. Thereafter he was employed as the bookkeeper for St. Joseph Catholic Church until his second retirement.
David married Judith A. Swan June 26, 1982, at St. Joseph Catholic Church. Surviving are his wife, Judy; two sons, Anthony Rohr and his wife, Britney Starr of Otsego and Nicholas Rohr of Chicago; three brothers, Charles Rohr of Holland, George (Gertrude) Rohr of Kalamazoo and Michael Rohr in Oregon; three sisters, Sharon (David) Bartholomew of Kalamazoo, Mary (Forrest) Laughlin of Gobles and Carole Rohr of Kalamazoo and many nieces, nephews and cousins and their families. Dave was preceded in death by his parents.
Dave was a member of St. Joseph Catholic Church, where he served as a reader and usher. He previously served as an Eucharistic Minister, Cantor, choir member and was active with numerous committees and Parish activities. David had a passion for photography, writing poetry, and spending time playing on-line Scrabble and other word games. He enjoyed hunting and fishing in his younger years. And most of all he loved spending time with family and friends.
Friends will be received 5:00-7:00 p.m. Monday at the Farley-Estes & Dowdle Funeral Home, where the Rosary will be recited at 6:30 p.m. November 25, 2013.
A Mass of Christian burial will be celebrated at St. Joseph Catholic Church 10:30 a.m. Tuesday, November 26, 2013. Military honors and interment will follow at Ft. Custer National Cemetery.
