David Hunt Ross, age 87, of Battle Creek died peacefully on Thursday evening, February 19, 2015 at the Bronson at Home Good Samaritan Hospice Residence. He was born in Detroit, Michigan on November 20, 1927, the son of Richard and Mary M. (Houston) Ross. David faithfully served his country as a Sergeant in the United States Army from 1950 â 1956, and was a long time member of the Lincoln Park Masonic Lodge.
David spent more than 40 years in Lincoln Park before moving to the Battle Creek area in 1973. He was a soldier, an electrician, a businessman and a salesman. He was a loving partner to Jan, an understanding and encouraging father, a devoted grandfather and a loyal friend. Everyone who spent time listening to his stories was entertained and enriched. He loved to golf, hunt, boat and spend time socializing with friends. He was a U of M football fan, and loved going to the games. He was a 40 year member of Riverside Country Club and he belonged to American Legion Post #298.
David is survived by his loving partner, Janice M. "Jan" Ashby of Battle Creek; his daughter, Laurie Leet of Troy; his 4 grandchildren, Fletcher (Britney) Leet of Schoolcraft, Kimberly Ross of Battle Creek; Abigail Leet of Troy, and Logan Ross of Battle Creek; a sister, Peggy (Latif) Fakhoury of North Carolina; a brother, Stanley (Alice) Ross of Florida, and several nieces & nephews. He was sadly preceded in death by his parents, and on January 17, 2015 by his son David Logan Ross.
The family will receive friends from 11:00 a.m. to 1:00 p.m., Wednesday, February 25, 2015 at the Farley-Estes & Dowdle Funeral Home where a celebration of David's life will follow at 1:00 p.m., Wednesday. Family & friends will continue the celebration of David's life with a memorial luncheon at the American Legion Post #298, 228 N. 20th Street, Battle Creek. Interment with full military honors will take place at the Fort Custer National Cemetery at a later date.
