David E. Swafford

David E. Swafford, age 79, of Marshall, Michigan passed away on Aug 31, 2022, at Glen Arbor Hospice Care facility, after losing his battle with heart disease. David was born Aug 16, 1943, in Battle Creek Michigan, the son of Robert and LoRetta Swafford.

David graduated from Battle Creek Central in 1961 and proudly enlisted in the US Navy. He was assigned to the Naval Mobile Construction Battalion 3, the Seabees, spending time in Guam, Okinawa, and Thailand. Upon his return he received an Associate Degree in Industrial Engineering Technology, Magna Cum Laude, at Kellogg Community College in 1972. David (better known as "Yogi") worked at Eaton Corporation in Marshall, MI, retiring in 1997 after 34 years.

He spent many years refereeing MHSAA varsity football and umpiring softball for schools all around Michigan. He traveled with Battle Creek Central's basketball team, keeping stats for Chuck Turner for 30+ years. He also enjoyed his years as a statistician for WBCK's Sunday morning "Coach's Corner" radio show.

In 1989, he married Nancy (Warrick) Swafford and together they enjoyed traveling and spending time with family. David is preceded in death by his parents and spouse. Surviving members of David's family are his 3 children and grandchildren: son Robert Swafford and Jaret, daughter Wendy (Joe) Einhardt and Rayna, Cole, Ava, son Randy (Katrina) Swafford and Anya, Elayna, Elsa, Emma, 4 stepchildren and grandchildren: Floyd Siegel, Christina Siegel, Scott Siegel, and Michael (Ruth) Siegel, Justin, Alex, Marissa, Kaylynn, Keyshawn, Sam, Angie, Austin, Zachary, Isabelle, Landen. He also leaves his brother: Donald Swafford, and a lifelong special friend: Sandy Gastian.

Arrangements by the Farley Estes Dowdle Funeral Home & Cremation Care. David will be interred at a graveside service with military honors on September 9, 2022, at 1:00 pm at Floral Lawn Memorial Gardens in Battle Creek, MI.
