Delores Jean (Berkey) Carr

Delores Jean (Berkey) Carr, 88 of Battle Creek, Michigan died peacefully at Evergreen Manor in Battle Creek on Wednesday, June 14, 2023.

Delores was born April 10, 1935, in Windber, Pennsylvania to Robert John and Beulah (Mock) Berkey. She grew up in Ecorse, Michigan and was a 1953 graduate of Ecorse High School. Delores lived in Minnesota for 30 years prior to moving to Battle Creek in 1993.

She was employed in the Office of Schools in Minneapolis, MN, doing office duties and also working with handicapped individuals. Delores also volunteered at the Doris Klaussen Developmental Center in Battle Creek. Her most gratifying job was taking care of her family and caring for her son, Rich, who needed special care throughout his life.

Delores Jean Berkey was united in marriage to Glenn Richard Carr on June 13, 1953, in River Rouge, MI.

Delores was a member of Battle Creek Friends Church. She loved God, her Bible study group and most of all her family. Delores enjoyed friendships, helping people (volunteering), traveling, movies with her husband and just getting together with friends and family. Her hobbies included sewing (dresses for Africa), quilting (blankets for homeless), growing a garden and “canning tomatoes”! She was a very good cook and could whip up a great meal incredibly fast. Delores will be remembered for her kindness toward others.

Sadly, Delores was preceded in death by her husband, Glenn on December 2, 1997, and also her son, K. Richard Carr in 1994; her sister, Patricia Bulko, as well as her parents. Surviving are her sons, Keith (Elizabeth) Carr of Kalamazoo, Ken Carr of Dickinson, ND; four grandchildren, Nathan, Nicklaus, Nathaniel and Bethany; six great-grandchildren; a sister, Judith Powers and several nieces and nephews.

A service to celebrate Delores’ life will be officiated by Pastor John Grafton 2:30 p.m. Monday, July 10, 2023, at Fort Custer National Cemetery.
