Delores A. Smith, 86, of Gull Lake, died Saturday, July 25, 2015 at home surrounded by her family. Delores was born June 8, 1929 in Battle Creek, the daughter of Otto and Marie (Stone) Summers. She grew up on Gull Lake, as her parents owned a marina there. She graduated from Battle Creek Central High School and went on to Argurbright Business College. She worked at Water Lift as a key punch operator for many years.
Delores had many interests. She enjoyed golfing, boating and playing bridge. She was a very talented at cross stitching. Some of her best work is on display at New Hope Covenant Church and Yorkville Community Church, where she attended. She loved to be a host to many parties and was a phenomenal cook and entertainer. But most of all, Delores had a special love and bond with her grandchildren, whom she cherished.
Delores is survived by her two children, Clifford Brainard of Gull Lake and Anne Marhrle of Battle Creek; 6 grandchildren and four great-grandchildren. She was preceded in death by her loving husband of 44 years, Jack Smith. She was also preceded in death by her daughter, Susan Sherman and her son, Wesley Brainard.
A memorial visitation to celebrate Delores' life will be Thursday, July 30, 2015 from 4:00 p.m. to 7:00 p.m. at the Farley Estes Dowdle Funeral Home and Cremation Care, Richland Chapel.
