Dolores E. McGinnis, 89, of Battle Creek died peacefully at Pennfield Premier Living on Sunday, May 16, 2021. She had been a resident at Bedford Manor since 2003.
Dolores was born August 22, 1931 in Kalamazoo, Michigan the daughter of Theodore H. and Mary V. (Snooke) Shilts. She grew up in Kalamazoo and was a graduate of Portage High School. Prior to her marriage, Dolores managed Plainwell Roller Rink in the winters. She later spent some time employed in the office at PM Systems in Battle Creek.
Dolores Eileen McGinnis was united in marriage to William E. McGinnis on April 14, 1951. Surviving are her son, Michael J. (Julie) McGinnis of Battle Creek; three grandchildren, Mitch (Jennifer) McGinnis, Matthew (Jennifer McCormick) McGinnis, Jennifer (Patrick) Christianson, five great-grandchildren, Afton and Cohen McGinnis, Max, Lily and Charlie Christianson. Dolores was preceded in death by her husband, Bill and her parents Ted and Mary Shilts.
Dolores and Bill loved golfing together and as members of Bedford Valley Country Club and in Myrtle Beach after retirement. Dolores was proud of her four holes-in-one. She also enjoyed bowling. Dolores volunteered as a Gray Lady at the former Lakeview General Hospital She was a former member of Elks Lodge BPOE # 131
A graveside service will be officiated by Rev. Patricia Weatherwax 11:00 a.m. Wednesday, June 2, 2021, at Beckley Cemetery, on Helmer Road near I-94 and Beckley Road.
