Dolores Mary (Borton) Smith of Richland, MI

Dolores, age 89, passed away peacefully at home on Wednesday, April 4, 2018, with her loving family at her side.

Dolores was born on September 11,1928 in Decatur, MI to Leonard and Erma (Martin) Borton. She was raised with her five sisters and one brother; Ardith, Wanda, Fern, Marilyn, Charlyn and Verlyn. Dolores was a 1946 graduate of Vicksburg High School. On February 15,1948 in Vicksburg, she was united in marriage to her best friend, Francis LaVern "Smitty" Smith, who preceded her in death on February 4,1994. She was also preceded in death by her beloved granddaughter, Amanda Smith and her special friend, Bill Matthies.

Dolores retired in 1990 after 21 years of faithful service and dedication to the Parker-Hannifin Corporation in Otsego, Michigan. She was a long-time member of Yorkville Community Church and enjoyed volunteering her many talents with the Women's Guild and other projects when needed.

She will be greatly missed by many friends and family members including four sons and daughters-in-law, David and Cathy of Schoolcraft, MI, Jeffrey and Judy of Parchment, MI, Steve (and special friend, Amy) of Richland and Terry and Wendy of Bradenton, FL; her cherished grandchildren, Amy (Wayne), Andrew (Lori), Jennifer (John), Rebecca (John), Wesley, Blake and Kayla; and ten greatgrandchildren, Isaiah, Jacob, Gabriel, Sophia, Joshua, Peyton, Christopher, Hayden, Lucas and Ryan. She is also survived by her siblings, Fern Denning, Charlyn (Wallace) Matthies and Verlyn (Marilyn) Borton and numerous nieces and nephews.

Dolores' family will greet friends on Monday, April 9th from 4:00 p.m. to 7:00 p.m. at the Farley Estes Dowdle Funeral Home & Cremation Care, Richland Chapel, 9170 East D Avenue (M-89). The Funeral Service to celebrate Dolores' life will be held on Tuesday at 11:00 a.m. at the Yorkville Community Church, 11523 East D Avenue, Richland 49083, with the Rev. Shawn L. Raifsnider, Pastor, officiating. Family and friends will gather in the Church Social Hall immediately following the Service to continue Dolores' life celebration with a time of fellowship and a luncheon. Interment will be at 2:00 p.m. next to her beloved husband, Smitty in Fort Custer National Cemetery, Augusta, MI. In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions in Dolores' honor may be directed to the Church (see address above); Hospice of Southwestern Michigan, 222 N. Kalamazoo Mall, Suite #100, Kalamazoo, MI 49007 or a charity of one's choice.
