Donald Dale Geiger, Sr. of Richland, MI




Don, age 83, passed away on Wednesday, August 12, 2015, at home after complications from heart surgery.


Don was born June 13, 1932 in Kalamazoo, Michigan, the son of the late June S. and Kathrynn (Grace) Geiger. After graduating from Delton High School in 1950, he enlisted in the U.S. Marine Corps and served our country honorably and nobly as a Sergeant in Europe during the Korean War. On April 16, 1955, he married his "Sapphire" in life, Joyce E. Curtis, who survives him after 60 years of marriage. He started out climbing poles for Consumer Power (Energy) and worked his way up the "pole" to become the Electrical Distribution Supervisor for Allegan County. He retired in 1989 after 39 years of service.


After retirement, he and Joyce spent 20 plus years being snowbirds in Sebring, Florida. He loved having one of Joyce's famous family dinners with his two son's, Donald Dale Geiger, Jr. of Plainwell, MI and Steven (Brenda) Geiger of Hopkins, MI; granddaughters; Stacy (Jason) DeWeerd and Carrie (Adam) Seifert and great grandchildren, Skylar and Tucker DeWeerd, Kalle and Baby Girl Seifert, due in October.


Also surviving is his siblings, James (Donna) Geiger of Kalamazoo, MI, Richard (Doris) Geiger of Sebring, FL, and Mary June Gucma of Kalamazoo along with several nieces and nephews. His sister Jacequeline McMahon preceded him to Heaven on May 15, 2015 and his brother-in-law, John Gucma.


Don's family will greet friends at Farley-Estes & Dowdle Funeral Home & Cremation Care, Richland Chapel, 9170 East D Avenue (M-89) on Friday, August 14th from 5:00 p.m. until 8:00 p.m. with a Scripture Service at 7:30 p.m. Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated at St. Ambrose Catholic Church, 1628 East G Avenue, Parchment, MI 49004 on Saturday, August 15th at 10:30 a.m. with Father James S. O'Leary, Pastor, as Celebrant. Interment will be at Prairie Home Cemetery, Richland, MI with the United States Marine Corps Honor Guard bestowing military honors. In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions in Don's honor may be directed to Wings of Hope Hospice, 530 Linn Street, Allegan, MI 49010 or the American Heart Association, 3816 Paysphere Circle, Chicago, IL 60674.
