Rev. Donald Herdman has been called Home. Born to Amelia Biel Herdman and Eugene N. Herdman, in Freeport, Illinois, he played high school sports with the Freeport Pretzels. Don and Vivian Herdman were married for 54 years until her death last year. They had one son, David Herdman, now of Olympia, Washington. Pastor Herdman is also survived by a sister, Mary Lou St. Claire of Sun City, Arizona.
Pastor Herdman attended Carthage College where Vivian was also a student. He received his Master of Divinity degree at Chicago Lutheran Theological Seminary in Maywood, Illinois, and was ordained as a pastor of the Lutheran Church in America in 1963. Later, he completed his Doctor of Ministry at the Lutheran School of Theology at Chicago. He served churches in Illinois, Iowa, and Michigan, including 20 years at Trinity Lutheran in Battle Creek. After his retirement he served as interim pastor at numerous churches in Michigan.
A celebration of Pastor Don's life will be held at Trinity Lutheran Church, 2055 E. Columbia on Monday, January 3rd, 2022 at 2:00 p.m. The service will be live streamed at https://www.facebook.com/trinity.church.581. In lieu of flowers, donations to Trinity Lutheran Church may be made in Pastor Don's memory.
