Donald Philip "Phil" Malpass

September 20, 1932 — November 20, 2019

Donald Philip "Phil" Malpass of Kalamazoo, MI

Son of Theodore Malpass and Phyllis (Graves) Malpass. Preceded in death by his parents, his brothers Fredrick (Bruce) Malpass, Theodore (Ted) Malpass, a sister Mary Lou Shinn, two grandchildren, Elizabeth Albright and Theodore (Teddy) Malpass, and son-in-law Curtis O'Shock. Philip lived a full life, loved by his family, his wife of 66 years Dolores Ledbetter Malpass and their five children; Melody O'Shock, Joy Overall, Loyale Albright (Todd), Theodore Malpass (Carol), Bruce Malpass (Deb). One of his proudest roles was that of Papa to seven surviving grandchildren and seven great-grandchildren.

Philip was a retired Pharmacist who worked at a number of area stores. He mentored many in the pharmaceutical field and became friends with countless customers. Philip was very involved with the church throughout his life. He loved music and played a variety of instruments, including the Swiss Alpine horn. He enjoyed the camaraderie of neighbors and friends with "wine time" and festivities. He was a history buff, and raised a family of history nerds, dragging his children through battlefields and museums throughout their lives. Philip's love of travel included trips to 14 countries and all 50 states. Many of those travels included trail and mountain hiking. Philip had a passion for the great outdoors and hunting. If he had been born in a different era, he may have been a mountain man. He hunted small game, deer and moose, as well as tagging his first elk at the age of 80 in New Mexico.
