Donald Joseph Ossege, 86, of Battle Creek, Michigan passed away peacefully at home November 28th, 2021.
Don was born February 24, 1935 in Dayton OH, the son of Waldo and Marie (Reigelsperger) Ossege. Surviving Don is Sandra (Allen), his wife of 58+ years, whom he married on May 28th 1963 in Dayton; two sons Todd (Barbara) of Apalachin, NY, and Matt (Marita) of Oxford, MI; and four grandchildren Cam, Katelynn, Izaak, and Kylie. Don was preceded in death by his parents and his brother Ralph Ossege.
Don attended Chaminade High School in Dayton and honorably served in the U.S. Army. He worked for the Federal Government for 31 years. He started with the Defense Electronics Supply Center In Kettering, OH as a Tape Librarian. He transferred to the Defense Logistics Services Center in Battle Creek in 1971. He retired from the Defense Logistics Agency in 1990 as a Computer Specialist. Later in life, he was a driver for Battle Creek Toyota for several years. Don was involved with several community organizations over the years, including the Calhoun County 4-H Rabbit Club, the Battle Creek Model Railroad Club, and was a past president of the Parkshore Association. He was a long-time member of the Chapel Hill United Methodist Church.
Don enjoyed traveling across the country with family and friends. Many memories were made on trips to the Rocky Mountain region of the U.S. and Canada, the highlight of which was a 7-week trip to Alaska. He looked forward to vacations at the family cottage in northern Michigan, where he enjoyed fishing and relaxing. Don enjoyed sports, especially rooting for his beloved Notre Dame. He and Sandra were regulars at Harper Creek football games for many years. He always looked forward to a good nap with his pups.
The family would like to thank the staff of ProMedica Hospice, Fresenius Kidney Care, and the Vascular Health Center for their care and compassion over the past several months.
A service to celebrate Don's life and interment at Ft. Custer National Cemetery will be in the spring of 2022. Memorial contributions can be made to the National Kidney Foundation and the ProMedica Hospice Memorial Fund. Arrangements by the Farley Estes Dowdle Funeral Home & Cremation Care.
