Donald H. "Don" Smith, 75, of Battle Creek collapsed and died unexpectedly on Monday, October 22, 2018.
Don was born in a rustic log cabin on September 16, 1943 in Rawdon, Quebec, Canada, the son of Wesley Copping Donald and Dorothy Mabel (Dixon) Smith. He grew up in Canada and worked for Canadian Tire Company. Don was also employed working on roads and installing underground piping in Canada, the United States and several foreign countries, including Sri Lanka. Locally he was employed at Marywood Golf Club and Crandall Farms.
Surviving are his wife, the former Sherry Michele Meal; two daughters, Dale and Patti; three sisters, Margot, Jeannie, Susie and their families; and best friends Larry Crandall and John "JD".
Don was a 30+ year member of Northside Snowmobile Club, had held multiple offices in the club and was currently in charge of trail patrol. He enjoyed attending auctions and car and tractor shows. Don will be remembered as a proud Canadian Citizen; a man with a lot of energy, who was always on the go.
Friends will be received 2:00 p.m. â 3:00 p.m. Saturday, October 27, 2018 at Farley Estes Dowdle Funeral Home & Cremation Care, where a service to celebrate Don's life will be held 3:00 p.m. Saturday, October 27, 2018.
