Doris (Hanna) Morse Costa - passed away on March 5, 2023.

Doris was born in Battle Creek August 24, 1923, daughter of Glenn and Ruby (Miller) Hanna.  She graduated from Battle Creek Central High School in 1940 and married her high school sweetheart Clair (Moose) MorseDecember 18, 1941, who preceded her in death October 12,1991. 

Doris worked for Michigan Bell Telephone Co. as a long distance operator for several years which prepared her for her future job as a U.S. Coast Guard SPAR long distance operator.  She served her country at Constitution Base in Boston MA during WWII.  In 1945 the Morse’s returned to Battle Creek and had four children.  Doris was active in the First Congregational Church where she was a member of the Chapel Circle.  She belonged to the Junior League of B.C. and spent many hours on various projects.  She was an Emily Andrus Board member and a Docent at Binder Park Zoo.  Doris was an avid bridge player and had attained the rank of Life Master in the American Contract Bridge League.  Her other major interest was golf.  She played many years at Battle Creek Country Club and had a hole-in-one on #4 fairway in 1976 and again in Florida when she was 85 years old.

Doris and James “Pat” Costa were married July 2, 1995.  They enjoyed traveling to many countries and playing golf.  Their last active years together were spent as Red Cross volunteers at the VA Medical Facility.  Pat died July 30, 2015.   

Doris is survived by four children, Tamara (Robert) Mullins of Lynn, MA, Eric C. Morse of Delray Beach, FL, Stephen G. (Kimberly) Morse of Battle Creek and Kimberly S. Morse of Richland, MI, five grandchildren and five great grandchildren.  She was preceded in death by a granddaughter Andrea Lynn Petrowich.  A private family service is planned.  Suggested donations are Charitable Union and Art Middleton VA Christmas Fund.  Arrangements by the Farley Estes Dowdle Funeral Home & Cremation Care.  Personal messages for the family may be placed at www.farleyestesdowdle.com.
