Dorothy E. Daly

Dorothy Evelyn Daly, 98, of Battle Creek, MI died Monday, January 6, 2025 at Lakehouse Assisted Living Facility in Kalamazoo. Dorothy was born May 23, 1926 to Fred and Ethel (Randall) Miller. She was raised on a farm and met her husband, Maurice Milo Daly from Bellevue, MI, at the White Rabbit Dance Hall in 1941. They married January 9, 1942 in Angola, IN. Except for the years Maurice spent in service during WWII, they were inseparable until his passing. 

After they both retired from General Foods, they moved to Apache Junction, Arizona, where they lived for 12 years before moving back to Battle Creek. They enjoyed traveling and went on several cruises and golf vacations. They were both exceptional dancers and taught square dancing and round dancing at their home in Pennfield. 

Dorothy was a very talented artist and seamstress. She designed and made all her square dance dresses, clothes for herself and family, and created beautiful crocheted and knitted items. At the age of 80 she decided she wanted to learn how to quilt. She drove herself to classes and during the next several years made numerous beautiful quilts for herself and family, all hand quilted. She also learned calligraphy and for years made all her own holiday and greeting cards. She had so many talents and was always learning new skills and working on creative projects. 

Dorothy was preceded in death by her husband, Maurice M. Daly and her oldest son, Richard M. Daly. She is survived by two sons, David M. (Deeona) Daly of Portage, MI and Larry L. (Carissa) Daly of Beavercreek, OH; 6 grandchildren, Kelly (Rick) Beechy, Janie (Dennis) Sare, Autumn Daly, David Daly, Andrea (Keith) Bollard and Trisha (Ben) Newcome; 8 great-grandchildren and a special friend, Danny Jenkins. 

Visitation will be Monday, January 13th, 2025 from 12:00 p.m. to 1:00 p.m. at the Farley Estes Dowdle Funeral Home & Cremation Care, where funeral services to celebrate Dorothy’s life will be 1:00 p.m. Monday. Interment will follow at Floral Lawn Memorial Gardens. Memorial contributions may be made to a charity of choice. Personal messages for the family may be placed at www.farleyestesdowdle.com.
