Dorothy T. (Riedmiller), Henderson, 96, passed away peacefully on December 9, 2025. Dorothy grew up in the Pocono mountains with her parents and five siblings and graduated with honors from East Stroudsburg High School. After graduation, she worked for the original Dixie Cup Co. in Easton, PA., while attending Churchman’s Business School where she met her husband, William. They were married in 1948 and celebrated 74 years together. William preceded her in death in December 2022.
Dorothy worked as office manager for Dr. John Mellon in Broomall, PA., and later as office manager at Saint Joseph Catholic Church in Battle Creek. She helped establish the first Central Jersey chapter of the Literacy Volunteers of America. She taught countless people of all ages to read and received the 1982 New Jersey Literacy Award.
Dorothy was an accomplished seamstress, papier-mâché artist, and landscape gardener and was an avid reader all her life. She devoted herself to caring for her family and was a thoughtful, caring and hardworking mother. She loved the outdoors and was in her element designing and planting her flower gardens in spring and summer.
Dorothy is survived by daughters Christine (Michael) Kipper of San Marcos, CA., Patricia Henderson and Eileen Henderson both of Battle Creek; three grandchildren; 10 great grandchildren; three great great-grandchildren and many nieces and nephews.
A Funeral Mass will be held at St. Joseph Catholic Church on Tuesday, December 23, 2025 at 10:00 a.m. followed by interment at Memorial Park Cemetery. Memorial donations may be made to ProLiteracy (formerly Literacy Volunteers of America) and All Species Kinship (A.S.K.) of Battle Creek.
