Dorothy L. "Dottie" Whitman, age 69, of Bellevue, died peacefully and went to be with her Lord on Sunday evening, July 14, 2013. She was born in Battle Creek on September 20, 1943, the loving daughter of Chester L. and Allie Mae (Phillips) Covington. Dottie retired from the Kellogg Company in 1996 after more than 29 years of faithful service and is a member of the Kellogg 25 Year Club.
Dottie married Robert L. "Bob" Whitman in Port St. Luce, Florida on December 8, 1992; he survives. She is also survived by her children, Randy Donovan of Pennsylvania, Sheryl (Arthur) Taggart of Alaska, Ronald Whitman of Battle Creek, Tina (David) Jacoby of Battle Creek and Tammy Whitman of Battle Creek; her father, Chester Covington of Battle Creek; 8 grandchildren, Samantha, Danielle, Ashley, Davey, Nathan, Tyler, Kaitlyn and Destiny; her brother, Chester L. (Adele) Covington of Marshall, and her sister, Carey (James) Clark of South Lyon. Dottie was preceded in death by her mother Allie Mae Covington in 2007 and her son, Robert "Robbie" Whitman in 1997.
Dottie was an active member of the Family Altar Chapel, Battle Creek and she enjoyed her Bible studies, "Serving Jesus", and loving on others. She also enjoyed playing golf, racquetball and spending time with her family.
A visitation will be held 4:00 to 7:00 p.m., Thursday, July 18, 2013 at the Farley-Estes & Dowdle Funeral Home. Funeral services to celebrate Dottie's life will be held 1:00 p.m., Friday, July 19, 2013 at the Family Altar Chapel 14844 6 ½ mile Road, Battle Creek, MI 49014. Interment will follow at Memorial Park Cemetery. In lieu of flowers, the family asks that you please consider making donations to the Family Altar Chapel.
