Dorothy Jane (Yurko) Vogel, 92, of Battle Creek, Michigan died peacefully at Calhoun County Medical Care Facility on Saturday, January 7, 2017.
Dorothy was the only child born to Frederick J. and Margaret Catherine (Wagner) Yurko on June 18, 1924 in Chillicothe, Ohio. She was a 1942 graduate of Chillicothe High School and dedicated her life to raising her large family.
Dorothy married Jack R. Vogel on April 22, 1944 in Chillicothe. Sadly she was preceded in death by Jack, her husband of 63 years on January 1, 2007. Surviving are nine children, Jack D. (Jeri Lee) Vogel of Battle Creek, James (Sue) Vogel of Paw Paw, Joseph (Janice) Vogel of Battle Creek, Jerry (Wendy) Vogel of Battle Creek, Jeff (Angie) Vogel of Michigan City, IN, Jayne (David) Baker of Battle Creek, Josh (Lora) Vogel of Kalamazoo, Jay (Vanessa) Vogel of Bloomingdale, OH, Jeanne (Jeff) Cebelak of Ypsilanti; 20 grandchildren; 14 great-grandchildren; two great great-grandchildren; a sister-in-law, Betty Baumgardener and two nephews all of Columbus, OH and a cousin, Bonnie Davenport of Delton, MI.
Dorothy devoted her life to raising her nine children with her husband, Jack. She loved time spent with family and friends, especially at the family cottage on Long Lake. She enjoyed reading, puzzles and cards; her favorites being Euchre or Hands & Feet. Over the last 10 years her friendships grew with people she got to know at Lakeview Senior Living and Calhoun County Medical Care Facility. She greeted everyone with a hello and a smile, never forgetting their name or face. Dorothy will be remembered as a thoughtful and caring person, loved by all. She was an avid Ohio State Buckeye fan and always will be. Dorothy was a member of St. Joseph Catholic Church.
Friends will be received 6:00-8:00 p.m. Wednesday at the Farley Estes Dowdle Funeral Home & Cremation Care, where the Rosary will be recited 7:30 p.m. Wednesday. A Mass of Christian burial will be celebrated at St. Philip Catholic Church by Fr. José Haro at 10:30 a.m. Thursday, January 12, 2017. Committal and interment will follow at Ft. Custer National Cemetery.
