Douglas Wray "Doug" Marshall, age 77, of Battle Creek passed away peacefully on Thursday evening, March 31, 2022.
Doug was born in Ottawa Ontario, Canada on August 28, 1944, the son of the late Wray Irwin and June (Paul) Marshall. Moving to the United States as a small boy, he graduated from Portage Central High School in 1963. Upon graduation, he enlisted in the United States Air Force and received an honorable discharge. From there, he continued his military duty in the Air National Guard Security Police.
After living in the United States for many years, he took the oath to become a naturalized citizen on May 1, 1972. On September 15, 1973, Doug was united in marriage to the former Joanie Swick in Battle Creek. They have one son, Scott.
Doug had been involved with Boy Scouts and Civil Air Patrol for many years. He retired in 2000 from the State of Michigan working in mental health, State Treasury and the Battle Creek Air National Guard Base.
Doug is survived by his spouse of 48 years, Joanie Marshall; son, Scott Marshall; granddaughter, Haley Ryan Marshall and many nieces and nephews. He was preceded in death by both parents and a sister, Karen Marshall.
The family will receive friends 11:00 a.m. to 12:00 noon, Tuesday April 5, 2022 at Farley Estes Dowdle Funeral Home & Cremation Care, Battle Creek where a Celebration of Doug's Life will begin at 12:00 noon, Tuesday. Interment with full military honors will follow at Fort Custer National Cemetery. In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be made to the Southwest Michigan Veterans Relief Fund.
