Douglas Lee Tyjewski, 72 of Battle Creek, Michigan died peacefully Wednesday, January 11, 2023 at Glenn Arbor Place, with his family and loved ones at his side.
Doug was born as a twin at Leila Y. Post Montgomery Hospital in Battle Creek on December 14, 1950, the son of Cezar and Marie Agnes (Dickerson) Tyjewski. He was a lifelong Battle Creek resident, a member of the Class of 1969 at Battle Creek Central High School. He honorably served in the U.S Navy, two years active duty and a total of six years, including his time in the U.S. Navy Reserve. Doug was employed at U.S Steel & Wire, for the City of Battle Creek for 13 years between his time at the Airport, Sewer & Water and tree trimming. He also worked at the Kellogg Company for 14 years and owned and operated Tyjewski Lawn Care for 18 years.
Douglas Lee Tyjewski was united in marriage to Linda Lou Batterson on December 29, 1970 in Battle Creek, MI. Doug was preceded in death by his wife, Linda on December 31, 2011. Surviving are two daughters, Patti (Matt) Wensauer and Jennifer (Douglas) Herney both of Battle Creek; grandchildren, Shelby and Mason Ernst, Aiden and Charles Saunders, Thomas and Matthew Wensauer, Mason Herney; his mother, Marie Tyjewski of Battle Creek; brothers, Bill (Elaine) Tyjewski of St. Augustine, Florida, Paul (Phyllis) Tyjewski of Muskegon; sisters, Ann Grover of Hopkinsville, Kentucky, Cathy Tyjewski of Battle Creek; his significant other with whom he shared a home, Linda Calvo; numerous aunts, uncles, nieces, nephews, cousins and their families. In addition to his wife Doug was also preceded in death by his father, Cezar and his twin brother, Daniel L. Tyjewski.
Doug could use his hands to fix anything. He also enjoyed to teach and share his knowledge with his children and grandchildren, so they would have the ability to make decisions, use trades and have skills to solve their problems. He loved his family, cooking, eating, fishing, hunting, gardening and canning. Doug spent a considerable amount of time fishing with his uncle, Ron Johnson. Doug loved to fish and hunt in the UP with his brother Paul, family, and friends. He enjoyed home improvements, built houses, remodeled, finished and repaired with skill and knowledge. Doug will be remembered for his smile, knowledge, and kind heart.
A Celebration of Life Service will be held for Doug on Saturday February 4th, 2023, from 1-4 pm, at the American Legion 298th Post: 228 N 20th St, Springfield, MI 49037.
