Durwood "Woody" Duane Booher, loving husband, father, and grandpa passed away on Thursday, December 1, 2022. Woody was born on June 5, 1943, in Lake Odessa, MI to Russell and Mabel (Van Blarcom) Booher. He was united in marriage to Jeanne E. Zemke on August 15, 1964, in Vermontville, MI. He was the proud father of Doug and Dee Dee.
Woody attended Sunfield and Vermontville Schools and was a 1961 graduate of Vermontville High School. He served in the National Guard from 1961-1963. He was also a 1964 graduate of Kellogg Community College. He worked at Post Cereal and Blu-Surf, Inc. before starting his own business Double D Equipment Company in 1977. He was a long-time member of the West Michigan chapter of the Chemical Coaters Association.
Woody was active in the greater Battle Creek Community. He volunteered with the Battle Creek Amateur Sports Association, St. Mary's Lake Association, and the Pennfield Lions Club. Woody was on the Pennfield School Board of Education for 17 years and the Calhoun Intermediate School Board for 31 years. He could often be found rooting on the Pennfield Panthers at football and basketball games.
Woody was preceded in death by his wife of nearly 52 years, Jeanne; parents; parents-in-law; Reinhart and Polly (Jones) Zemke, brothers Vernon and Kerwin, sisters-in-law Ann Booher and Dorothy Booher and brother-in-law, Carl Grashius.
Woody is survived by; son, Douglas (Michelle) Booher of Middleton, WI; daughter, Dee Dee (Michael) Michaux of Austin, TX; grandsons, Charlie Booher (fiancé Katherine Lechman) of Missoula, MT and Kirkland Michaux of Austin, TX and granddaughter, Gracie Michaux of Austin, TX. He is also survived by sisters-in-law, Edith Grashius of Hastings, MI, Margaret Cook of Vermontville, MI and Mary Zemke of Battle Creek, MI along with many special nieces and nephews. In addition, he is survived by several close friends, including his special friend Rosemary Hahn of Hastings, MI.
Woody's family will greet friends on Friday, December 16th from 5:00 p.m. until 7:00 p.m. at the Farley Estes Dowdle Funeral Home & Cremation Care, Battle Creek, MI. The Funeral Service to celebrate Woody's life will be held on Saturday, December 17th at 10:30 a.m. at Farley Estes Dowdle. In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions in Woody's honor may be directed to the Durwood D. and Jeanne E.
