E. Duane Lewis of Battle Creek, MI
Duane, age 85, died Sunday morning, April 9, 2017 at Borgess Medical Center, Kalamazoo, MI.
Duane, the son of Kenneth and Frances (Hoover) Lewis, was born in Battle Creek on August 8, 1931; was a lifetime area resident and a 1950 graduate of Lakeview High School. He retired from the Calhoun County Road Commission as a Truck Driver and Foreman after 20+ years of faithful service and continued truck driving for the Michigan Milk Producers Association until 2005. Duane was an avid bowler, rolling in the Marshall Leagues for many years and with his buddies at M-66 Bowling Lanes. He was at peace whenever he was fishing. Duane enjoyed manicuring his lawn and toiling in his garden.
Duane was united in marriage to the former, Ona Sheila Russell in Battle Creek on July 10, 1955. Surviving is his wife of 62 years, Ona; his daughter, Janet M. (Fred) Aebli of Battle Creek; two precious grandchildren, Hillary (Nate) Boyd of Lake Odessa, MI and Bethany Aebli of Grand Haven, MI and a great grandson, Max M. Boyd and a niece, Gloria Lewis Edmark of Lewisville, TX. A son, Russell K. Lewis of Rochelle, IL; grandson, Randolph E. Lewis of Polo, IL, and a great grandson, Cyrus J. Lewis of Polo, IL. Duane was preceded in death by his parents; a brother, Robert Lewis, and a niece, Sharon K. Lewis Yeomans.
The Memorial Service to celebrate Duane's life will be held Friday, April 14 at 10:00 a.m. at the Leroy Township Hall, 8156 4 Mile Road, East Leroy, 49051. In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions in Duane's honor may be directed to Future Farmers of America (FFA) of Michigan, Michigan State University, Natural Resources Building, 480 Wilson Road, # 180 East Lansng, MI 48824. The Farley Estes Dowdle Funeral Home & Cremation Care, Battle Creek is assisting Duane's family with his arrangements.
