Edward Thomas Crumpton, 84, a lifelong Battle Creek resident died peacefully at Bronson at Home Hospice Residence on Tuesday, February 17, 2015.
Ed was born on April 2, 1930, to Claud J. and Joy Bell (Townsend) Crumpton, in Battle Creek, Ml. Ed was a 1948 graduate of Lakeview High School. He attended Michigan State University briefly and then enlisted in the U.S. Navy for one year including duty on a destroyer, the U.S.S. Richard E. Krouse (DD-849). Ed joined the family business and was co-owner of Crumpton Automotive Parts with his brother, Chuck.
Ed married Doris Ruth "Dodie" Smith on January 21, 1951, at the First Congregational Church in Battle Creek. Surviving is his wife, Dodie, with whom he celebrated their 64th wedding anniversary with their family just last month. Also surviving are their children, Denise (Daniel) Nedeau of Kenosha, WI, Julia (David) Shouldice of Battle Creek, Neil Crumpton of Portage, Eric (Shawn Trepins) Crumpton of Battle Creek; and eight grandchildren, James (Heather) Shouldice, Elizabeth (Jeremy) Smolik, Margaret (Jeff) Stockwell, Patrick Crumpton, Nathan Crumpton, Eric (Morgan Diedrich) Crumpton, Evan Crumpton and MacKenzie Crumpton. Ed was preceded in death by his parents and his brother, Charles Crumpton.
Ed loved Dodie with all he had and one of Ed's favorite sayings was "She's my wife and my life." They had their first date on New Year's Eve 1945 and they've been together ever since. He loved his family and enjoyed taking pictures of them and Mother Nature. Ed loved traveling and spending time with his family at their homes in Battle Creek and on Long Lake in Traverse City. He loved teasing people, which included his laughter, a great big smile and often a dog biscuit. Ed was a good businessman who cared about all of his team and his customers. He will be remembered as one of the "good guys".
Friends will be received 2:00-4:00 & 6:00-8:00 p.m. Thursday at the Farley-Estes & Dowdle Funeral Home, where funeral services will be held 1:00 p.m. Friday, February 20, 2015. Entombment will follow at Memorial Park Cemetery.
