Edward Jasper of Coldwater, Michigan went home to be with Lord on Saturday, August 19, 2017 after a brief stay at the VA Medical Center in Battle Creek, Michigan.
He was born May 7, 1924, in Orland, IN, son of William and Verba Jasper. He grew up in Bronson, MI until he was inducted into the Army in 1943. Spending 2 years, 8 months and 26 days serving his country in France, Berlin and England and receiving his Purple Heart and numerous ribbons of honor. Returning home after discharge on his mother/s birthday in 1946. During this time he was corresponding with Doris Brigham of Sherwood, MI and upon returning they were united in marriage, January of 1946. The newlyweds lived in Coldwater 12 years while he worked at Camerons Paints and served as a city Police Officer.
In 1958 the couple and their 1 year old daughter moved to Battle Creek, MI where he worked at Grand Leader, Robinsons and managed Larry's Paint Spot for 20 years. He loved interior decorating and flipping homes. The couple bought and sold 28 homes in their lifetime.
Upon retiring they moved back to Coldwater. In 1994 he lost his beloved wife to heart complications. Ed spent the remainder of his life with a wonderful companion, Marilyn Melendy, traveling the U.S. and residing very happily in Coldwater together.
He is survived by his daughter and husband Janice and Steven Taylor of Brevard, NC, sister, Barbara Dirschell of Coldwater, brother Aerrol Jasper of Coldwater, 3 grandchildren, Nick Hutchinson of South Bend, IN, Travis Hutchinson of Bronson, MI and Lacey Hutchinson of Grand Rapids, MI and 4 great grandchildren of Bronson.
A graveside service to celebrate Edward's life will be 1:00 p.m., Tuesday, August 22, 2017 at Sherwood Cemetery, officiated by Rev. Trent Hammond. Memorial donations may be made to the D.A.V.
