Edward David Yaw

August 1, 1931 — July 8, 2013

Edward David Yaw of Parsonsfield, Maine, Age 81

Died on July 8, 2013 at his home in the care of his children. He was born in Battle Creek on August 1, 1931 to Kenneth and Doris (Lowther) Yaw.

Ed graduated from Battle Creek Central in 1948 and Michigan State College in 1952 with a degree in Wildlife Conservation. He worked for the Department of the Interior for Sports, Fisheries and Wildlife. While in that field he was a ranger at the Okefenokee Swamp Refuge, where his mode of transportation was an air boat. He also worked at the Big Pine Key Refuge before moving to department headquarters in Boston where he helped design and plan other National Refuges. His artistic talents were useful when he was called on to draw illustrations for various pamphlets and periodicals. He retired in his early 50's and built an eco-friendly home on a mountain in Maine. Ed was an artist, painting startlingly realistic wild animals. He also enjoyed gardening, landscaping and adding on to his house. He was very creative, had a wonderful mind and a great sense of humor. He will be missed.

His marriage in 1953 to Ruth Courtier ended in divorce. She preceded him in death. Ed is survived by his wife Cornelia, his daughters Deborah (Paul) Piotte and Laura (Paul) Parenteau of Florida and his son Timothy Yaw of Maine, three step children, several grandchildren and great grandchildren. He is also survived by sisters Connie (Ron) Messenger and Susie (Hank) Wells of Battle Creek.

Private family services were held in Maine. Memorial contributions may be made to the American Cancer Society or a charity of your choice.

Arrangements are by the Farley-Estes & Dowdle Funeral Home. Personal messages for the family may be placed here at www.farleyestesdowdle.com.
