Edwin Theodore Lucas, Jr.

Edwin Theodore “Ted” Lucas, Jr. of Galesburg, passed away September 8, 2026.

Ted was born October 31, 1944 in Battle Creek to Barbara and Edwin Lucas, Sr. and graduated from Athens High School. He served in the U.S. Army for 24 years. His honors included three Army Achievement Medals, three Commendation Medals, the Meritorious Unit Commendation, six Good Conduct Medals, two National Defense Service Medals and Armed Forces Expeditionary Medal. As a Vietnam War veteran, Ted earned the Vietnam Service Medal with four campaign stars, the Republic of Vietnam Campaign Medal, The Republic of Vietnam Gallantry Cross Unit Citation with Palm and Senior Aircraft Crewman Badge. While stationed in Panama, he met Susana Marlene Delgado and on May 3, 1986 they married. Following his military service, he earned his Bachelor’s degree from Austin Peay University and worked as a Medical Technologist at Regional Medical Laboratories before retiring in 2010. Ted enjoyed carpentry, fishing, gardening and supporting Michigan football. He will be remembered as a devoted husband, a loving dad and a proud grandpa. He was a fighter until the end, facing challenges with the bravery and grace that defined his life.

Ted is survived by his wife, Susana Lucas; children, Jennifer (Mackenzie) Lucius, Sarah (Tyler) Wischmeyer, Timothy (Amber) Lucas and grandchildren, Emma, Theodore, Cole, McKinley, Gianna, Callie and Lainey. He was preceded in death by his parents, Barbara and Edwin; sister, Sandy and brother, Dennis.

Ted’s family will receive friends for visitation Sunday, September 13 from 11:00 a.m. to 1:00 p.m. at Farley Estes Dowdle Funeral Cremation Preneed Care, Richland Chapel.
