Elaine Ann Baker

Elaine A. Baker, 85, of Battle Creek, died May 30, 2026. Elaine was born April 27, 1941 in Charlotte, MI to Lansing and Wilma (Taylor) Coplin. She graduated from Olivet High School in 1960 and later married James Baker on August 10, 1963. Elaine attended Argubright Business College and worked at Sears Roebuck & Co. She also was a daycare provider and a school lunch aide. Elaine was a city election official for Battle Creek for 17 years.

Elaine was highly active in the community and was a member of the Calhoun County Day Care Association and the OHS (Olivet High School) Gals Luncheon. Elaine was very fond of her time at the OHS luncheons and the friendships made and fun times. She was the president of the Martha Circle, later known as the Sarah Circle, at Chapel Hill United Methodist Church. She enjoyed working in her flower garden, scrapbooking and spending time with her grandchildren, Allison, Jessica, Brooke and Brenden. She loved taking them out to lunch on their birthday and made them each a scrapbook of their years growing up.

Elaine is survived by her two children, Greg (Theresa) Baker and Sandra (Brian) Miller; her brother, Marvin (Linda) Coplin and grandchildren, Allison (Garrett) Kingsbury, Jessica Baker, Brooke Miller and Brenden Miller and many nieces, nephews, great nieces and nephews and great great-nieces and nephews. She was preceded in death by her parents; her loving husband, James and her brother, Duane Coplin.

Visitation will be Thursday, June 4, 2026 from 12:00 p.m. to 1:00 p.m. at the Chapel Hill United Methodist Church, with a funeral service starting at 1:00 p.m. A luncheon will follow at the church. Interment will be at Memorial Park Cemetery. Those wishing to make memorial contributions in honor of Elaine are asked to consider American Lung Association or Heartland Hospice.
