Elaine (Tomchak) Walter, age 82, of Battle Creek passed away Monday morning, June 11, 2018 at Bronson Battle Creek.
She was born in Albion, Michigan on October 5, 1935, the daughter of Michael and Catherine Tomchak. Elaine graduated from Albion School in 1953 and furthered her education at Western Michigan College, graduating in 1958, and was a teacher in Springport & Jackson.
Elaine married her longtime sweetheart, JR Walter of Battle Creek on June 27, 1964; he survives. She is also survived by her four children, Curt (Ramona) Walter, Chris (Holly) Walter, Heidi Walter, and Collin (Kathleen) Walter; her five grandchildren that she loved dearly, Seth Walter, Alex Walter, Brooke Walter, Olivia Walter, and Katya Coy; her sister, Elizabeth "Vetcha" Sayles; and many nieces & nephews.
Elaine was lovingly committed to her husband, children and grandkids. She served as a Bluebirds, Campfire Girls and Cub Scout leader for her children. Elaine was very active in PTA and other school organizations and enjoyed organizing the Pennfield craft show for many years. She spent many hours gardening, canning, reading, and sewing Halloween costumes for all her children and grandkids. Elaine loved to dance with her husband, JR, at any event to 50's music.

Funeral services to celebrate Elaine's life will be held at 11:00 am, Friday, June 15th at Farley Estes Dowdle Funeral Home & Cremation Care with The Very Reverend Archpriest Lawrence Bacik of St. Elias Eastern Orthodox Church officiating. Interment followed at Hicks West Pennfield Cemetery. Memorials directed to the Michigan Parkinson Foundation would be appreciated.
