Eleanor J. (White) Foster, 95, formerly of Battle Creek died at Jennings Terrace Nursing Home in Aurora, IL.
She was born August 17, 1918 in Jackson, MI to Joseph Charles and Theta (Wagoner) White. Eleanor moved from Detroit to Battle Creek in 1933. She resided in Battle Creek until moving to Florida in 1980 and then returned to Battle Creek in 1994. She attended Battle Creek Central High School. Eleanor was employed as the Parish Secretary at First Congregational Church for 16 years, retiring in 1980.
Eleanor was united in marriage to J. Stewart Foster on June 1, 1937 in Battle Creek. She was preceded by Stewart, her husband of 69 years on September 9, 2006. Surviving are two daughters, Carol (Earl) Montgomery of Sugar Grove, IL and Janet E. (Donald) Swayze of Attica, MI; four grandchildren, Jenny Gage, Stephanie (John) Hoffer, Matt Swayze and Keith Swayze; five great-grandchildren, Katie Hoffer, Julia Hoffer, Johnny Hoffer, Sam Swayze and Hannah Swayze; a sister, Betty Jo (John) Ross and several nieces and nephews. In addition to her husband, Eleanor was also preceded in death by father; mother; stepfather, Harry Woodward and a brother, Jack White.
Eleanor was a member of First Congregational Church, where she was a past president of the Parish Circle. She was also a life member of Bedford Chapter #471 O.E.S. She enjoyed singing in her church choir, shopping and reading. Her favorite hobby was needlepoint. She loved spending her time with family and friends.
Friends will be received 10:00-11:30 a.m. Wednesday, October 23, 2013 at the Farley-Estes & Dowdle Funeral Home. Private family services will be held at Memorial Park Cemetery.
