Eleanor Van Streain

Eleanor VanStreain, 95, of Hickory Corners, died peacefully Tuesday, May 23, 2017 at her home surrounded by her family. Eleanor was born July 18, 1921 to Laurence and Irene (Buckingham) Verdon. She graduated from Western Michigan University with a BA in Library Science.



Eleanor married Frederic C. VanStreain on February 12, 1944. The couple enjoyed 50 years of marriage. She had many hobbies, but especially loved golf, knitting and collecting books.



Eleanor is survived by her three children, Margaret (Mike) Low of Augusta, Kathy (Randy) Wise of Fenton and Fred VanStreain of Williamston; 8 grandchildren; 14 great-grandchildren, five nieces and two nephews.



Eleanor was preceded in death by her husband; a daughter, Mary Lou and a daughter-in-law, Kathy VanStreain.



The family will receive friends from 1:00 p.m. to 2:00 p.m. Tuesday, May 30, 2017 at the Farley Estes Dowdle Funeral Home & Cremation Care, Richland Chapel. A graveside service to celebrate her life will immediately follow at Prairie Home Cemetery. Memorial donations may be made to Hospice Care of Southwest Michigan.
