Elizabeth Jean Moss passed peacefully with her family by her side on Saturday, September 1, 2018 at the age of 79. She was born in Chesaning, MI on July 7, 1939 to James and Mildred Verga. She was known fondly by family and friends as Tootsie.
As a young child her family moved to Battle Creek, MI. She graduated from Battle Creek Central and while there met the love of her life Ronnie Moss. They married May 24, 1959.
After graduation, she worked as a switchboard operator for Holmes Motor Sales and at the Sip-n-Nip which was owed by her in-laws. From 1968-1982 she and her husband owned and operated Hoff's Hardware in Wattles Park. In 1986 they purchased Moss's Grocery in Burley Corners and shortly after moved to Loon Lake. She retired in 2001. After retirement she spent her time with her grandchildren and great grandchildren, traveling to California, Kentucky and Ohio.
Tootsie was active in many clubs and activities throughout her life. She loved playing Bunco and played with the same group of friends for over 50 years. She belonged to the Lion's Club and was actively involved in the Bellevue Historical Society and was Treasurer for several years.
One of her greatest passions was to go to Estate Sales. She loved collecting miniature shoes and purses, porcelain birds and dolls. Most of all, she loved spending time with family and friends, laughing, singing and dancing. Her loving spirit will be missed.
She is survived by her husband of 59 years, Ronald Moss; sons, Timothy (Teresa) Moss of Paw Paw, MI, Mark (Cindy) Moss of Battle Creek, MI and daughter, Donna Bray of South Lake Tahoe, CA. She is also survived by six grandsons, Bret (Kerri) Moss, Kurt (Stephanie) Moss, Nicholas (Cherielynn) Moss, Matthew Moss, Samuel Bray and Caleb Bray; seven great-grandchildren, Paige, Adelyn, Brynlee, Lucy, Taylorfaye, Caysen and Torilynn; and her sisters, Mary Medich, Barbara (Jim) Fitzjohn and Debi (Rick) Ferall. She was preceded in death by her parents, James and Mildred Verga; and sisters, Violet Atzman, Donna Wenzel, Joan Kirkelie and Patsy Murray.
The memorial service to celebrate her life will be held 2:00 p.m., Friday September 7, 2018 at the Eagles Lodge, 19757 Capital Ave. NE Battle Creek, MI 49017.
