Elizabeth Jane "Betty" Neve

July 26, 1921 — October 7, 2016

Elizabeth Jane "Betty" Neve, age 95, of Battle Creek went to be with her Lord and Savior on Friday morning, October 7, 2016. Betty, the loving daughter of Bert "Taw" and Kathryn E. (Guinnee) Flack, was born in Council Bluffs, Iowa on July 26, 1921. Betty married the "Love of Her Life" Colonel Jack C. Neve in Georgia on February 20, 1943; he sadly preceded her in death on February 26, 1997.

Betty worked as a secretary at Mutual of Omaha and Union Pacific Railroad in Omaha, Nebraska. She was a devoted Army wife and amazing mother. They lived in San Francisco, Hawaii, Germany, Missouri, Kansas, Illinois, California, Washington D.C. and Virginia and relocated to the Battle Creek area in 1964.

Betty was a member of the St. Philip Roman Catholic Church, Council of Catholic Women, and a life member of the Battle Creek Health System Auxiliary. She enjoyed dancing, watching college sports, traveling and sewing. She made beautiful quilts for all of her sons and grandchildren. She also enjoyed writing letters and still corresponded with a friend in Germany after more than 60 years. Betty spent many hours every day praying "Hail Mary's" for those she loved. Most recently Betty, lovingly called Nana, celebrated her 95th birthday surrounded by family and friends. Nana was happiest when spending time with her loved ones. Many heartfelt thanks to Betty's caregivers at the Heritage Assisted Living and Great Lakes Hospice.

She is survived by her children, Jack "Jay" (Susan) Neve, Jr. of Battle Creek, Jeffry (Mary Theresa) Neve of Winter Garden, Florida, and David (Charlotte) Neve of Fenton; 7 grandchildren, CDR. (Ret.) Jack "Cliff" (Marilyn) Neve III, USCG, Melissa (Todd) Felkey, Jessica (Peter) Staib, Jeffry (Suzanne) Neve, Theresa (Nathan) Dawson, and Sarah (Michael) Marmie; 15 great-grandchildren; 3 great-great grandchildren, and a sister, Judy Davis.  Betty was also preceded in death by her parents; her grandson, Matthew Graham Neve in 1988, and her sisters, Barbara Huyck and Rita Ronk.

The family will receive friends 10:30 to 11:30 a.m., Friday, October 14, 2016 at Farley Estes & Dowdle Funeral Home & Cremation Care where funeral services to celebrate Betty's wonderful life will be held at 11:30 a.m. Interment will follow at Ft. Custer National Cemetery. In lieu of flowers, please consider making donations to the Council of Catholic Women at St. Philip Roman Catholic Church.
