Ellen (Huber) Sommerfeld, 95, of Battle Creek left this world at The Oaks on Thursday, March 29, 2018; to join her Lord & Savior.
She was born in Battle Creek on October 10, 1922 and raised by her grandmother Clara A. Huber.
Ellen graduated from Lakeview High School in 1941 and went to work at Kellogg's. She married Loren J. Sommerfeld, June 21, 1947 in the First Presbyterian Church. In 1948 she left Kellogg's and returned in 1965. She worked in several different offices and retired in 1985 from the Power Plant Office. Ellen was a honoree life member of the Bronson Battle Creek Hospital Auxiliary with 26,000 volunteer hours knitting baby garments, a life member of the Kellogg's 25-Year Club, Kellogg's Retirees Association, a member of the First Presbyterian Church since 1948 and a member of the Deborah Circle.
Ellen was preceded in death by Loren J. "Shorty" Sommerfeld, her husband of 64 years on March 4, 2012; her grandmother; her brother Hilton Huber; and her oldest son, William H. (Bill) Sommerfeld. Surviving are a son Michael J. (Janet) Sommerfeld of Ann Arbor; and a grandson, Zachary.
Graveside services will be officiated by Rev. Patricia Weatherwax at Du Bois Cemetery 11:00 a.m. Thursday, April 5, 2018. Memorial contributions may be made to the First Presbyterian Church or the American Heart Association.
