Eloise G. (Newkirk) Warsop of Gull Lake (Hickory Corners, MI)







Eloise, age 99, passed away peacefully at Calhoun County Medical Care Facility, Battle Creek, MI on January 1, 2015.


Eloise was born at home on July 31, 1915 in Ross Township to George and Grace (Frie) Newkirk. She graduated from Kellogg Agricultural High School and attended Business College for two years.


Eloise married Reuben R. Warsop on October 3, 1941 in Kalamazoo, MI. They moved to Belleville, MI until the mid 1960's when Reuben's job transferred to Grand Rapids, MI. They eventually moved back to her childhood home at Gull Lake.


Eloise was an accomplished pianist and organist and taught keyboard for over twenty years. She enjoyed traveling, winters in Florida on Pine Island, summers at Gull Lake, swimming, telling the history of Gull Lake to family, attending family gatherings and caring for her beautiful flowers. She had a keen mind for bookkeeping and finances.


Eloise is survived by her son, Philip (Jackie) Warsop of Alma, MI; grandsons, Gerry Warsop, II of Belleville, MI, Randy (Mary) Warsop of Dearborn, MI; her niece, Marti (Steve) Smith of Gull Lake; a nephew, David (Karen) Newkirk of Allen, TX and several great nieces and nephews. Eloise was preceded in death by her parents; husband, Reuben on May 11, 1993; her son, Gerry Warsop and a brother, Les Newkirk.


The Memorial Service to celebrate Eloise's life will be held on Saturday, January 10th at 1:00 p.m. at the Farley-Estes & Dowdle Funeral Home, Battle Creek, with Rev. Tim Smothers, Chaplain of the Calhoun County Medical Care Facility, officiating. Eloise's family will greet friends from Noon until service time at the funeral home. Interment will be in Day Cemetery, Ross Township at a later date. In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions in Eloise's honor may be directed to the Kellogg Agricultural High School Alumni Association, c/o Gull Lake High School, 11775 East D Avenue, Richland, MI 49083 or to a charity of one's choice.
