Emily Marie Thomas, 62, of Battle Creek, Michigan was called home by the Lord after a brave battle with cancer on Thursday, September 4, 2014, with her sons at her bedside.
She was born April 21, 1952 in Cumberland, Maryland to David and Beatrice (Tubbs) Thomas. Emily grew up in Battle Creek and attended Battle Creek Central High School.
Emily is survived by her significant other of 27 years, Jack Kershner; two sons, Matthew (Anne) Thomas of Plainwell; Josh Thomas of Battle Creek; a niece that was like her daughter, Christina Thomas of Battle Creek; a grandson, Jakob Thomas of Plainwell; a sister, Connie Thomas and a brother, Ronald Thomas both of Battle Creek; two very close grandnephews, Zachary and Dallas Thomas; and a nephew, Michael Wines. Emily was preceded in death by her parents, David and Beatrice Thomas; and a brother, David Meek.
Emily enjoyed cooking, cleaning her home, flower and vegetable gardening and all kinds of music, especially big band and country music. She was concerned for all kinds of animals, both domestic and wild. More than anything, she loved spending time with her family.
Friends will be received in the Chapel at Memorial Park Cemetery 3:00 â 4:00 p.m. Saturday, September 13, 2014, where memorial services will be held at 4:00 p.m. Saturday, September 13, 2014. Arrangements are by the Farley-Estes & Dowdle Funeral Home.
