Emmajean VandenBerg, age 86, of Augusta passed away Friday evening, November 24, 2017. She was born in Augusta, MI at her parents' farmhouse on May 10, 1931, the daughter of James "Jim" and Florence (Greer) Carrigan. Emmajean and her husband, "Gordie", along with their family, have owned and operated the Maple Hills Golf Course in Augusta since 1963.
Emmajean married the "Love of Her Life", Gordon VandenBerg on September 7, 1956; he sadly preceded her in death on February 12, 2008. She is survived by her children, Tim (Chris) VandenBerg and Karen VandenBerg, both of Battle Creek; two grandchildren, Bryan (Morgan Clay) VandenBerg and Jenna VandenBerg, both of Battle Creek; and her sister-in-law, Gertrude Petersen of Kalamazoo. Emmajean was also preceded in death by her parents, and two brothers, Dale Carrigan and Donald Carrigan.
Emmajean was a member of the First Presbyterian Church of Battle Creek and the Martha Circle. She enjoyed flower gardening, reading, golfing, taking care of the family golf course, traveling, and wintering in Florida. A true animal lover, Emmajean spoiled many pets throughout the years, but her true passion in life was spending time with her family, especially her grandchildren.
The family will receive friends 5:00 to 8:00p.m., Thursday, November 30, 2017 at Farley Estes Dowdle Funeral Home & Cremation Care, Battle Creek. Funeral services to celebrate Emmajean's life will be held 11:00 a.m., Friday, December 1, 2017 at the First Presbyterian Church, Battle Creek. Interment will be in Day Cemetery, Ross Township.
