Erma G. Erikson, 95, of Battle Creek, died Wednesday, April 17, 2013. Erma was born October 5, 1917 in Battle Creek to Frank and Mary (Budinsky) Vegh. She worked for H.B. Sherman Manufacturing Company from 1936-1952, then ran Erma's Ceramic Studio from 1957-1965 before working as a bookkeeper for Ion Gage Contract Carrier until 1969. Erma was married to Eldon Shapley, Ion Gage and John Erikson, all of whom preceded her in death.
Erma was heavily involved in community activities. She was a longstanding member of the Pennfield Presbyterian Church, where she was an elder, deacon, and part of the Women's Association. She was a part of the Red Cross Gray Lady Group and a past president of the former Lakeview Hospital Guild and the Women's National Farm and Garden Association. She also held membership in the VFW Post #8715 Auxiliary, Elks #131, Vivians, and the Valentine Center.
Erma is survived by her son-in-law Eugene Wallace of Coldwater, four grandchildren, seven great-grandchildren and four great great-grandchildren. She was preceded in death by her three husbands, a daughter, G. Louise Wallace and her son, George P. Shapley.
Visitation will be Sunday, April 21, 2013 from 2-4 p.m. at the Farley-Estes & Dowdle Funeral Home, where funeral services to celebrate Erma's life will be 11:00 a.m. on Monday, officiated by the Rev. Douglas R. Nettleton. Interment will follow at Memorial Park Cemetery. Those wishing to make memorial contributions are asked to consider the Pennfield Presbyterian Church.
