Ernest D. "Ernie" Morgan

Ernest D. "Ernie" Morgan Sr., age 79, of Battle Creek went to be with his Lord on Sunday evening, February 7, 2016 at the Bronson @ Home Hospice Residence. He was born in Dayton, Tennessee on November 22, 1936, the son of Melvin D. and Audrey R. (Newby) Morgan. Ernie retired from General Motors in 1994 after more than 27 years of service and was a member of the U.A.W.

Ernie married his loving wife of more than 30 years, Donna M. Boden on July 2, 1985; she survives. He is also survived by his children, Teresa (Barry) Morgan-Smith, Tina (Dale) Rollenhagen, Ernest (Annette) Morgan Jr., and Frank (Susan) Morgan; step-children, Kevin (Lori) VanNortwick, Steve (Cassandra) VanNortwick, Greg VanNortwick, and Doug VanNortwick; 21 grandchildren; great-grandchildren, Aiden and Elizabeth Yingling, Aubrey Morgan, Aaliyah Finch, and Isaiah Sims; his brothers, "Butch" (Maxine) and Walter (Alice) Morgan, and his sister-in-law, Sharon Morgan. Ernie was sadly preceded in death by his parents, and his brother, James Morgan.

A true NASCAR enthusiast, Ernie enjoyed working on cars and going to car shows. He also enjoyed playing music with his brothers, morning coffees with the retirees at Mr. Don's, and truly loved spending time with his family.

The family will receive friends 5:00 to 8:00 p.m., Thursday, February 11, 2016 at Farley Estes Dowdle Funeral Home & Cremation Care where funeral services to celebrate Ernie's life will be held 11:00 a.m., Friday, February 12, 2016. Interment will follow at Floral Lawn Memorial Gardens. In lieu of flowers, please consider making donations to the American Cancer Society.
