Ernestine "Tina" Sanchez

July 21, 1921 — May 31, 2014

Ernestine T. "Tina" Sanchez, age 92, of Battle Creek died Saturday morning, May 31, 2014. She was born in San Antonio, Texas on July 21, 1921, the daughter of Blas and Guadalupe (Ramos) Trevino. She attended St. Henry's Academy and was a member of the school band, the "Golden Peacocks". After graduation, she worked in an office helping people to find work and to be placed in a job that suited them.

In 1941, at the age of 19, Tina married James Sanchez at St. Philip of Jesus Church in San Antonio. Together they had eight children, five sons and three daughters. In 1962, James was transferred to Battle Creek with his job. He worked for Civil Service and was assigned to the Federal Center in Battle Creek. Unfortunately, James died five years later on December 16, 1967. Tina decided to stay in Battle Creek as her children were already settled with jobs and school. She felt she couldn't just pack up and go to Texas to start all over.

Tina was also sadly preceded in death by her son, James Jr. in 1978 and her daughter, Anita Rojo in 2012. She is survived by her 4 sons, Augustine, Ernest, and Gilbert, all of Battle Creek and Timothy of Florida; 2 daughters, Rebecca Gutierrez of Texas and Yolonda Daniels of California, and many grandchildren & great-grandchildren.

Tina was a member of St. Joseph Catholic Church and the Legion of Mary and St. Francis Secular Order. She worked at L.W. Robinson's Department Store, and also taught at Minges Brook Elementary School through the Foster Grandparent program. Throughout her life she enjoyed writing poetry and praying for others.

Take care of each other. Remember me in laughter. If in
tears, don't remember me at all.
Love and God Bless all of you~
Pray for Me.
