Eugene "Gene" Eason, age 86, of Battle Creek was called to his eternal home on Sunday morning, February 28, 2021. He was born in Pierce County, Georgia on March 18, 1934, the son of Ivey and Aline (Thornton) Eason. Gene faithfully served his country as a member of the United States Army during the Korean Conflict and retired from Post Cereals on June 8, 1989 after more than 25 years of service.
Gene married the "Love of His Life" Dorothy Marie Engle on October 10, 1953 and they moved to Battle Creek in 1954. She sadly preceded him in death on November 10, 2012. He is survived by his daughter, Debbie DiGregorio of Florida; two sons, Rickey (Jackee) Eason of Kentucky and Rusty (Angela) Eason of Battle Creek; four grandchildren, Alicia Street, Trevor Eason, Pierce Eason, and Nicole Calvin; two great grandchildren, Blakelyn and Gunner; a half-sister, Dorothy Eason and a half-brother, James Eason. Gene was also preceded in death by his parents; his step-mother, Lizzie Mae Eason; his sister, Leona Eason Mobley; a brothers, Floyd, John and Earl "Pete" Eason.
A true nature & animal lover, Gene enjoyed tractor riding and trap shooting. He also enjoyed playing the guitar & music, watching football, and spending time with his family, but his greatest passion was golf. He truly loved spending time on the course with his golf buddies, Ed Jones, Hubie Johnston, Les Miller, and the late Jessie Engle. Gene was a member of Marywood Country Club.
A private family service has been held and Gene was interred next to his beloved Dorothy at Floral Lawn Memorial Gardens. A public celebration of Gene's life will be held later in the year when it is safe to gather again. Memorials directed to the American Cancer Society would be appreciated.
