Evelynn M. (Anderson) Haywood of Battle Creek, MI
Evelynn, age 86, passed away Friday morning, March 21, 2014 at Lifespan Good Samaritan Hospice Residence of Battle Creek.
Evelynn, the daughter of Walter M. Anderson and Gertrude (Kepler) Anderson, was born August 11, 1927 in Battle Creek, MI, and was a life long resident of Battle Creek residing for a brief period in Grosse Ile, MI. On April 4, 1947, she was united in marriage to Allan E. Haywood, Jr. at Lakeview Baptist Church in Battle Creek, MI. Evelynn graduated from Lakeview High School in 1946. She was a member of First Congregational Church where she was a member of the Susanna Winslow Circle and bell ringers' choir. She was a current member of First Presbyterian Church and an active member of Beta Sigma Phi Sorority Tau Chapter.
Evelynn was a dedicated and loving homemaker actively involved in numerous volunteer activities while raising her family. She was an avid sports fan, loved attending sporting events and was a loyal fan of the Detroit Tigers and U of M Football. She will be remembered for her fun, youthful spirit, and was always ready to join in any activity. Evelynn with be greatly missed by those whose lives she touched with her loving kindness , dedication to family and her faith.
Surviving are daughters, Terry (Chuck) Vandervelde of Holland, MI; Susan (Tom) Wood and Janett (Gary) Bundy, both of Battle Creek; Kristine (Amy Belstra) Haywood of Fox Lake, IL, and daughter-in-law, Lori Haywood of Battle Creek; 11 grandchildren, Laura (Chris) Jones, John (Kari) Vandervelde, Sarah (Ed) Pollack, David Vandervelde, Jeremy (Sarah) Wood, Marissa (Marvin) Voke, Bonnie (David) Lewis, Jane (Matt) Lynch, Jackie (George) Gramas, Jacob (Amber) Haywood, Joel Haywood and 29 great grandchildren and sisters in law, Barbara J. Lake and Carolyn E. Rupel. Evelynn was preceded in death by her parents, her husband, Allan, of 66 years, her son Allan E. Haywood III "Trip", sister, Vernest Bradstreet and brothers Eugene D. and William M. Anderson.
The Memorial Service to celebrate Evelynn's life will be held on Saturday, May 17th at 11:00 a.m. at Farley-Estes & Dowdle Funeral Home, Battle Creek, with Rev. Patricia Weatherwax, Associate Pastor of the First Presbyterian Church, officiating. Friends will be received from 10:00 a.m. until time of service at the funeral home. Final interment will be in Memorial Park Cemetery, Battle Creek.
