Frances Elaine (Shackelford) Brouse

Frances E. (Shackelford) Brouse, age 77, of Coldwater passed away Thursday evening, December 24, 2020 at Ascension Borgess Hospital in Kalamazoo. She was born in Altoona, Pennsylvania on January 10, 1943, the daughter of Daniel E. and Betty A. (Bowers) Nail. Over the years. Frances worked as a bus driver for the Reading School District & owned Fran's Variety Store in Reading, MI and a restaurant in Montgomery, MI.

Frances was preceded in death by her two husbands, Edwin C. Shackelford in 2007 and Robert L. "Bob" Brouse in 2015. She was also preceded in death by her parents; her grandson, Patrick Shackelford; two brothers, Eddie Hudson and Joe Hirsch; and her friend & fiancée, Norman Pagels. Frances is survived by her children, Barry (Corazon) Shackelford of Battle Creek, Shelley (David) Duran of Bryan, Ohio, Chris Shackelford of Angola, Indiana, and Joseph (Julie) Shackelford of Jerome; 8 grandchildren; 7 great-grandchildren; and her sister and brothers, Betty (Fred) Bell, Bert Hudson, Danny (Lisa) Hirsch, David Nail and George (Kay) Hirsch.

A true matriarch and devout Christian, her faith and her family were everything to Frances. She truly loved to spend time with her children & grandchildren and enjoying family photos & memories on Facebook. Frances was also a very gifted musician and she loved to sing and play the guitar & organ. She also enjoyed flowers & gardening, cooking & baking cookies.

Due to Covid-19 & the current government regulations, cremation has taken place and a memorial gathering to celebrate Frances' life will be held at a later date when it is safe to gather again.
