Frances M. (Cornelius) Matherly

Frances M. (Cornelius) Matherly, 100, formerly of Battle Creek died Monday, February 18, 2019 at Autumn Care in Cornelius, North Carolina.

Frances was born December 19, 1918 in Chicago, Illinois the daughter of Martin J. and Thyra (Baum) Cornelius. She grew up in Battle Creek, attended Springfield Schools and was a 1936 graduate of Battle Creek Central High School. Frances was employed at the Kellogg Company for 27 years, retiring in 1976.

Frances M. Cornelius was united in marriage to Paul R. Matherly on January 9, 1946 at First Presbyterian Church in Battle Creek. She was preceded in death by her husband Paul on December 13, 1999. Surviving are her son, Martin (Melody) Matherly of Richland, MI; daughter, Janet (Ronald) Ford of Charlotte, NC; four grandchildren, twelve great-grandchildren; nieces, nephews, cousins and their families. In addition to her husband Paul, Frances was also preceded in death by her parents and sisters, Gladys Beaty and Irene Bakeman.

Frances was a member of the First Presbyterian Church for 69 years and an active member of its Ruth Circle. She loved corresponding with her friends and family by writing cards and sending emails and keeping in touch by phone. She enjoyed Church work and she loved family gatherings.

Frances' family will receive friends between 1-2pm Saturday February 23, 2019 at Farley Estes Dowdle Funeral Home & Cremation Care. A funeral service will be held directly afterward officiated by Rev. Pat Weatherwax. Final resting place at Memorial Park Cemetery.
