Frank Rusan

Frank Rusan, age 93, a longtime resident of Battle Creek passed away Sunday, August 5, 2018 at the Oaks at Northpointe Woods where he was recovering from a broken hip. He was born in Battle Creek on March 21, 1925 to Katherine and Steve Rusan. Frank enlisted in the United States Army and served valiantly during WWII. He was wounded in Normandy and received a bronze star and purple heart. Frank was honorably discharged with the rank of Master Sergeant in 1948 and returned to his beloved hometown. He started his career at Michigan Carton Co. and later went into civil service with the federal government in Battle Creek, Alaska, Arizona and Maryland.

Frank was previously married to Dorothea, the mother of his three daughters, Barbara, Tina and Mary. He later married Jeanne, and she preceded him in death on July 3, 2007. Frank is survived by two daughters, Barbara and Mary; his brother John; two step-sons; six grandchildren and two great-grandchildren. He was also sadly preceded in death by his daughter, Tina.

Frank was an avid fisherman & hunter, and a loyal Detroit Tigers fan. He also enjoyed the give and take of antique sales and refinishing, and loved computers and computer games. With his winning personality, Frank shared many friendships at Firekeepers.

The family will receive friends 10:00 to 10:30 a.m., Monday, August 13, 2018 at the Farley Estes Dowdle Funeral Home where funeral services to celebrate Frank's life will be held at 10:30 a.m., Monday. Interment with full military honors will follow at Fort Custer National Cemetery. In lieu of flowers, please consider making donations to the American Lung Association.
